Happy Anniversary Baby!

August 31, 2006

Four years;)  I love you forever

August 29, 2006

So we met on the internet. Now we need a cover up story. What crazy tale do you tell people about how we met in real life?

We met on eHarmony. That’s not really the Internet, so it doesn’t count.

Iranian Persecution

August 25, 2006

For all the news stories I hear about Iran and the Middle East, I have not be seeing much about the human rights violations. Censorship, repression, torture and executions for adulterers, dissenters, and homosexuals. FYI, it all comes down to oil (We replaced the secular leader of Iran in 1953 after he tried to nationalize oil with a brutal despot and that’s how we got a theocracy, and today 80% of the Iranian government’s revenue comes from oil. Those rockets landing in Haifi were paid for by American and British oil companies).  I drove 10 miles today, and it cost about two bucks.  I would gladly pay five, even though i’m broke at the moment, if we were producing our own power.

Dance Like Nobody’s Watching

August 25, 2006

This video of an Air Force cadet dancing when he thinks nobody is looking raises several important questions:

  • I’ve never heard of a straight guy who can dance like that, except for maybe Steve Stiffler in American Pie 3. Don’t ask, don’t tell?
  • It almost seems like the dancing guy is complicit in his roomate’s plot to film him. Is this staged?
  • Does the possibility that this whole thing was staged make it any less hilarious?

Bill Clinton Supports Sex Workers, Awesome!

August 25, 2006

Former President Clinton said at the International AIDS Conference that we should legalize prostitution worldwide in order to stop the spread of HIV and AIDS:

I wish they would just amend the law and say, `We disapprove of prostitution but here’s the money — go save lives.

I second that motion, Mr. President. But why the heck didn’t you work towards these goals when you were in office?

The True Meaning of Choice: Morning After Pill OTC, Finally!

August 24, 2006

The New York Times reported today that the FDA’s recent approval to sell Plan B over the counter won’t have much of an impact on unintended pregnancies because:

Couples in the United States have so much unprotected sex — half of all pregnancies are unplanned — that even if the pills were passed out like lollipops, they would be unlikely to cause a major change in abortion and disease rates.

“Emergency contraceptives don’t work if, like condoms, they’re left in the drawer,” said Dr. James Trussell, director of the office of population research at Princeton University. “And studies show that even if women have the pills on hand, the drawer is where they remain.”

But making the pills available raises the fundamental issue of choice once again. A woman who has unprotected sex may get pregnant if she doesn’t have the pills on hand, and the outcome may be the same if she does have the pills on hand. But at least she has the choice to take them. At least they are available to her should she decide that she doesn’t want to get pregnant.

Last night, Andy and I watched the episode of 30 days (iTunes) where a pro-choice activist moves into a pro-life maternity home. The people at the maternity home were really good, decent human beings, although I disagreed with their refusal to provide pregnant women with even a phone number they could call to get more information about safe abortions.

Still, the bulk of what they do is truly good. They provide pregnant women who want to have their babies but have nowhere else to turn with support and a loving home while they get their lives in order. If only they weren’t so set on promoting their agenda, their home would be one of the most compassionate examples of choice that I’ve ever seen.

Social Conservatives Need to Get a Life

August 22, 2006

Some conservative groups are trying to get the FBI to crackdown on hotels allowing guests to order porn in their rooms.  The group has tried to put pressure on the hotels to stop offering porn, but since they make an average of $100 million dollars off the services, they kind of ignored the sexless activists.

This is really pointless, because if a traveler finds that he cannot view porn at his hotel, he can download that same movie with his cellphone.  Earth to social conservative activists, you lost this battle when the internet was created.  You cannot win.  It’s over. Joe Six-Pack can look at naked ladies whenever he wants.  Please spend your time and money doing something positive (like, I don’t know, helping the poor), and allow the FBI to use its ever-shrinking budget and resources to stop people from killing you because they have to watch porn on a two-inch cellphone instead of the big-screen TV in their hotel room.

The GOP has Lost its Way, Yasher Koa!

August 21, 2006

Chuck Hagel is dead on when he says that the Republican Party has lost its way. I wholeheartedly support a return to the values that made the GOP great in the era before neoconservatism.

Whatever happened to fiscal responsibility and small government? Whatever happened to sensible moderation, the separation of powers, and the rule of law? I applaud Chuck Hagel for asking these questions and working to reform the Republican party from within.

Edwards: Politics or Authenticity?

August 21, 2006

Last week, John Edwards stood up and declared that his vote to authorize President Bush to use force in Iraq was wrong. And then he apologized.

Obviously, this is in direct response to the message sent by the recent ouster of Joe Lieberman from his incumbency in Connecticut based on his outspoken support for the Bush Administration’s Iraq policy. Lieberman was the Democratic nominee for Vice President in 2000. Edwards–who got the party’s nomination for the same office in 2004–obviously saw that if someone can fall that far out of favor over this war, he’d better stand up and get on the right side of his party in a hurry.

When it comes to John Edwards, it’s really hard to tell whether he’s a decent honest guy with down-home roots or just a rich, sweet-talking Southern lawyer. Sometimes I think it’s a little of both.

What we do know is that he’s a politician, and he’s playing the game. But in playing that game, he’s representing the interests of Howard Dean’s “Democratic wing of the Democratic Party.”

Now will we choose to accept him as genuinely contrite or will we deem him simply another politician moving in rhythm with national opinion polls.?

Why I Support Polygamy

August 19, 2006

No doubt, there are a lot of abuses when it comes to some polygamous groups. Little girls are forced into marriages with evil old men. Women are brainwashed and kept ignorant and oppressed for life.

But there are decent people who practice this way of life, and by making allies of those people who want only to life their lives in peace, we can get a lot further in finding and prosecuting those who abuse it.

It’s not the liberals

August 19, 2006

I would just like to point out that the liberals aren’t making a big deal over a racial slur to score political points  It’s a big deal because racial slurs by a semi-famous person ranks about a 6 on a cable news scale of 1 to 10.
1 -  illegal wartapping and violations of constitutional rights
4 -  three-year war in Iraq with increasing sectarian violence and 14,000 deaths yearly
6 - a 30 day conflict in Lebanon with 500 deathes
7 -  a foiled airline terror plot
8 -  a potential break in the case of a 6-year-old girl who was murdered 10-years ago.  9 - the appearance of a nipple on network television
10+ - verification that Tom Cruise is, in fact, actually gay.

Would You Liberals Cut it Out???

August 17, 2006

Sometimes I’m really ashamed to be a “liberal.” This whole issue with Senator Allen makes me absolutely sick:

Yeah, he said some stupid shit, but it really sounds like he made an honest mistake. What’s more, he’s apologized. I get that it’s politically expedient to get at him this way, but can we please have a national debate over REAL ISSUES like Bush’s warrentless wiretaps and how they’re unconstitutional and illegal?
