Anderson Cooper’s Interview with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
September 20, 2006
Andy and I are sitting right now, watching CNN’s Anderson Cooper interviewing Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. I was not impressed with him. Here’s what I took away from the conversation and the wider news of the past 48 hours:
- President Bush should sit down with Ahmadinejad now, whether or not the Iranians suspend their uranium enrichment program.
- Ahmadinejad doesn’t get very much credit for reaching out, either.
- I lost respect for Ahmadeinejad when he pretended that he didn’t understand the connection between the Holocaust and Israel’s right to exist. He’s a smarter guy than that.
- The media and everyone else needs to acknowledge that Iran is not going to build “the bomb†in the next few years. They are at least 10 years away from a nuclear weapon. Our media is negligent to continue behaving as though they’re days away from nuking Tel Aviv.
I’m not sure who or what to believe in this struggle. Are Iran’s nuclear designs entirely peaceful? Does President Bush want to invade Iran? Are we closer than ever to the brink of world destruction? I have no idea…but I do know that I don’t want us to go to war with Iran. Everyone in the world deserves better than for us to open up another front in this grueling war.
Presidents Bush and Ahmadinejad need to speak President to President. They need to do it now, before it’s too late.

CNN …Woo Hoo!
I was surprised and very pleased to see CNN open the door to an exclusive interview with both President Bush and the President of Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. That’s the kind of media reporting the USA has lacked since 9/11. I was especially surprised of one CNN reporter criticising Bush for his not admitting that civil war has in fact broken out in Iraq. Bush has failed in Iraq and looked like the classic ass by not admitting that his personal war was one big mistake. Bush and his pals in Washington will have to answer to the people of the world for the blood shed of Iraqi people and thier own soldiers lost to war. Congratulations CNN, It takes guts to do an honest days work, I’m sure you’ll sleep soundly tonight. I don’t hold out hope for FOX, ABC or NBC for doing any unbiased reporting but will expect them to continue with thier neoconservative slants on news stories. They will toll the line under the strong corporate hand of media control. Thank goodness for the Internet and learning all aspects of news from around the planet. If Corporate media was really concerned about falling circulation and profits . Allowing press the freedom to report the facts without the fear of corporate retribution would be a start. You can also start with getting rid of those neoconservative talk show hosts. They are an embarrassment and should be cut loose to sink along with the ship of the republican party.
Only problem with your assessment on his terms with Israel is the FACT that Israel did not exist until after WWII. WE (USA/UN) created the country and sent them down there. If anyone should be apologetic it should be the Europeans. Pick up a history book or several since they are NOT all the same… and verify what I have said.
It was by the good graces and good will of the muslim community that they were granted safe passage and a home where Israel now exists. Look no further than the war in 1978 for the anger toward Israel.
