hugo chavez is a megalomaniac madman.
i think what andy is trying to get at is that fundamentally, people need stability more than they need democracy, because you can’t have the latter without the former. that said, hugo chavez is still bad news, regardless if this is the case. nutbag.

Deb & Jeff: On that front, we agree completely. People do need stability - witness Iraq. That said, Venezuela is already relatively stable. Chavez isn’t seizing power to bring stability to the country, he’s seizing power to try to “correct” economic inequities through government interference. That’s a recipe for disaster and will only lead to greater poverty and more instability.
