Bill Richardson On Meet The Press

May 27, 2007

I just watched Bill Richardson’s interview with Chris Matthews on Meet The Press. You should check it out.

One thing is definitely true about this guy: he is not slick, and he is not a liar. He is the opposite of President Bush, he has a great plan for Energy, and I don’t know if he can win, because he used the word “sacrifice”, and that scares people. I couldn’t agree more with him though. It’s time to take Energy Independence seriously, and he’s the only candidate who truly seems serious about it.

You should try to engage more with the local progressive blogosphere. When Richardson was in town last week a number of bloggers, including myself, had a chance to sit and talk to him for 20 minutes (I wrote about it on my blog). You should consider attending Drinking Liberally or getting in contact with Ken Camp at Washington for Richardson. Never hurts to network.

I think Meet the Press is hosted by Tim Russert…just a heads up.

Man, where do I start? Chris Matthews is not the host of Meet the Press - it’s Tim Russert. Then onto Richardson - he stammered and dodged every issue that he’s appeared to flip flop on, and is guilty at the very least of opening his mouth too soon and speaking out of ignorance. And this is a chronic problem, not an isolated incident. His lack of ability as a governor to pull New Mexico from the bottom of the heap in poverty, dropouts, violent crime, etc is an example of a mediocre manager without vision and leadership. His inability to separate race from position in the case of Gonzalez is deplorable - and revealing. This man is not qualified to be President of the United States of America. He’s not even compentent enough to be governor of New Mexico. My prediction? He will quickly fall to the side and be forgotten, just like he forgets facts, events, and occurrences with veteran’s families.

Jon T. I just heard similar comments from John B. Do you know where I can find some stats on New Mexico in terms of the categories you listed? If New Mexico is in fact at the bottom of the barrel, as you indicate,I may have to change my mind.

It’s easy to get excited about someone prematurely when we so desparately need some leadership at the top.

In the 5 years Bill Richardson has been Governor of New Mexico he has made huge improvement to a state with major problems.

Check out this page for the full story on Richardson’s time as NM Gov:

Yeah, this definitely was not Richardson’s best performance. It was painful at times.

However, I don’t think I can tag his as a chronic liar like Mitt Romney.

In response to Richardson’s record as Guv, I think that’s a bit unfair. The state has only improved since he took office, and he can’t be blamed for inheriting the terrible rankings that existed long before his tenure. He was surely ill-equipped to deal with an hour of heavily researched attack questions, and his relaxed candorous personality did not go over well at all with Russert’s format, but I still think he’s a respectable man with more experience than any three candidates in the entire field. The state of New Mexico owes a lot to Bill Richardson.

Got something to say?
