A Discussion Topic: Splitting Birth Control, For or Against?

July 20, 2007

I’m curious what you guys think.

Should a couple in a long-term relationship that is sexually active and shares an interest in not having babies split the cost of whatever birth control method they decide on?

Since the consequences will affect you both, absolutely.

Besides, if you were married you wouldn’t even be asking the question.

    For.

    Yes, absolutly.

I think I just understood the real subject of your previous post now.

At first I was leaning towards no, but after some thought I think it should definetly be split. Couples with mutuals interests, mutual decision, it doesn’t make sense for one person to pay.

Thanks for commenting! I tend to believe that long-term couples should split birth control, since they split the cost of raising a child if it were born.

Daniel: That does depend on how you split your finances when married. Some people continue to maintain financial independence and do not merge all of their assets when they tie the knot….Also, not sure what you mean about the meaning of my previous post.

Jeff: Just out of curiosity, what were your arguments against?

hey jeff, i just spent about $120 on yasmine, you wanna cut me a check when you get back? :-p

I’ll preface this by saying my knowledge of the pill is low, but am I wrong in thinking that some girls take it for things other than just birth control? Before I fully answer I’d like to know that.

Again, I think the cost should be shared, so deb i probably won’t cut you a check, but i’ll buy the next round.

    Jeff:
I once had a girlfriend who couldn’t have a normal period without birth control. Without it, she’d get it once every few months, sporadically, and it would be painful. The pill regulated her period for her.

Some women also take certain brands to control acne. The hormonal control helps keep the skin clear, apparently.

jeff and patrick: this may be true, but if you’re having sex with the girl, regardless of her prior reason for taking the pill, it’s still serving a contaceptive purpose that you would otherwise be splitting the bill for if you used any other method, right?

i assume that from a guy’s perspective (at least, if i were a guy) the pill is a lot more convenient (no fuss for me, better sensation than with other methods) so it’s not worth nickel and diming a girl who you’re sleeping with because she already takes the pill for her skin or period regulation or whatnot.

splitting the cost of bc is still more expensive than not contributing anything at all, but a lot cheaper than having a baby!!!!!!

Deb: So what you’re telling me is that baby’s are a financial burden? I’ll have to do some research into that to confirm.

I’m all about sharing the cost of contraceptive, I’ve already said it twice.

    Teresa @ 6

Your previous posted was entitled, “I’m Ready to Start Making Music Again”. You’ve surely heard the phrase “making beautiful music together”. And then you asked the question in this posting. Does that clarify?

    Hi,

I am now 7 months pregnant, everything is going well apart from the usual “getting bigger”
pains but I am used to that after having 4 previous children.

Since my last child was born I have seriously improved by lifestyle and “tried” to become
    more health conscious

I have just read an article that I found very worrying & I wanted to ask if anyone else has
    heard of this.

Researchers have found the presence of numerous harmful pesticides in the placentas of
    pregnant women

Seems the food that we eat which we thought was well made & safe actually isn’t!

Are you risking your babies health by eating the WRONG food?
Here is the link to the article I found http://fertilised.com/article.cfm/id/222454

Interested to have your feedback on this please!

    Thanks

    (Pregnant) Pamela

Got something to say?
