As Andrew Sullivan so succinctly concludes, it’s pretty clear that Alberto Gonzales is in contempt here:
Willful disobedience?
Check.
Open disrespect?
Check.
Disdain?
Check.
It’s pretty clear that this White House has absolutely no respect for the other institutions that govern this country. Does anybody value checks and balances anymore?

This is disgusting that the Attorney General refuses to questions. Of course Bush supports him, because he’s protecting Bush.
Why has he not been cited for contempt? Why is he still a free man? Why is he still Attorney General of the United States?
But the best question:
Why do the American people put up with this from their public servants?
OK, so I don’t see the context of this clip and I don’t know the background of the issues, but….
If he was White House counsel, there are things that are privileged. You’d think he’d be smart enough (of someone on his staff even) to prepare better, but I don’t, NECESSARILY, fault him for not answering that question.
That said, this is the problem with allowing an Attorney General who has such very very strong ties to the White House. He can claim privilege for just about anything. Why did our Congress let this guy in the front door? Gonzales is a fool, a half-wit, a liar.
If we needed yet another middle finger to the country from the White House, his continuance of position is one big one.
