President Bush On Education

September 30, 2007

A few years ago, President Bush asked the question “Is our children learning?” Well, after slashing the education budget and replacing recess, art, music, pe, and creativity with rigorous testing, President Bush informed America that, “Children’s do learn.”

This statement took place in a 3rd grade classroom where Bush held a press conference to announce the success of his educational program, No Child Left Behind. You can’t make this stuff up.

In other news, Jon Stewart left the Daily Show today, saying “my job is no longer challenging. The President has made it far too easy to make fun of him. I can’t even take the situation out of context to make him look more ridiculous.”

The Republican party is so unbelievably fractured on education. They want to look like they’re doing things “for the children”, but they have an allergic reaction anytime anyone proposes actually doing something for them that would involve spending money.

Spend ridiculous sums of money on fancy new weapons? Don’t even bat an eye. Set up programs that will actually result in REAL education taking place, and not just result in giving every teacher and student in the country an ulcer? Oh no no no, we could never have that, that’s irresponsible!

More and more I just want to be a hermit. Seriously, just buy 25 acres of grassland in the middle of nowhere and disappear. I rarely see anyone (ok, any group) actually advocate an even remotely reasonable point of view on any subject. It gives me very, very little hope for our future and at the very least, leaves me unwilling to be a part of said future.
