Clinton Demonstrators Need A Review of the Facts

May 28, 2008

To those Clinton supporters planning to protest outside the DNC Rules and Regulations Committee Meeting this weekend, where the committee will determine the seating of the delegates from Michigan and Florida, please read the following before some random passerby embarrasses you by enlightening you of the actual facts surrounding the issue:

Last August, when the DNC Rules Committee voted to strip Florida (and Michigan, if it persisted in clinging to its date) of its delegates, the Clinton delegates on the committee backed those sanctions. All 12 Clinton supporters on the committee supported the penalties. (The only member of the committee to vote against them was an Obama supporter from Florida.) Harold Ickes, a committee member, leading Clinton strategist and acknowledged master of the political game, said, “This committee feels very strongly that the rules ought to be enforced.” Patty Solis Doyle, then Clinton’s campaign manager, further affirmed the decision. “We believe Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina play a unique and special role in the nominating process,” she said, referring to the four states that the committee authorized to hold the first contests. “And we believe the DNC’s rules and its calendar provide the necessary structure to respect and honor that role. Thus, we will be signing the pledge to adhere to the DNC-approved nominating calendar.”

    Andy,

It’s called the Rules and ByLaws Committee. But you’re right, the Clinton supporters planning to demonstrate there are way off their rocker.

Also, I’ll be at that meeting. I managed to snag one of 125 available public seats. :)

This whole thing is one of the most stunning examples of Ms. Clintons flip floping, as much as I lothe the term. I can’t believe she can rail against disenfranchisement of these two states with a straight face. I am angry that she has not been more throughly denounced as a cur by the media. What a disgusting creature, even among politicians.

Patrick - That is amazing that you managed to snag as a seat. Please let us know what went on there. I am curious if anyone will actually suggest fully seating the delegates, and what the arguments will be for seating all the delegates and giving them half a vote (which nets 19 delegates for Sen. Clinton) and half the delegates (which nets only 6 delegates for Sen Clinton).

    Andy,

The meeting will be televised on C-span, but I am planning on live-blogging the meeting anyway for Al Giordano over at The Field (http://ruralvotes.com/thefield/). Probably not so much the content of the meeting, but the sort of stuff a television screen doesn’t reveal - the partisanship of the public spectators, the behavior and body language of the committee members not currently on screen, the behavior and size of the demonstrators outside - that sort of thing.

Got something to say?
