Impressions from Obama’s Address to Netroots Nation

July 19, 2008

Parts I liked:

  • When Obama subtly tipped his hat to the 24,000-member group on his social network that actively disagrees with him about his FISA vote.
  • His recognition of just how important bloggers are by encouraging us to reach out to our readers.
  • His acknowledgement of disagreements he’s had with the blogosphere.

Parts I disliked:

  • How subtle Obama’s hat tip to the anti-FISA group was. He should have mentioned that My.BarackObama.com is a place for debate and discussion, not just support and fundraising.
  • The partisanship. I know he’s the Democratic nominee and he has to tow the party line to a certain degree. I expect it, but I still hate it. I’d love to see him regularly mention the names of some Republicans he likes and respects.

What do you guys think?

I honestly have no interest in Obama regularly mentioning the names of some Republicans he likes and respects. After eight years of Bush Republicans running the show they have to earn every inch of such public respect and none of it has to happen immediately. Until then, they move to the back of the line.

I seriously don’t understand why he should mention the name of republicans to show his non-partisan philosophy. One can be non-partisan without sucking up a single republican. It is the ideas and policies that matters w.r.t non-partisanship than members from the other side of the aisle.

Ok then, how about some independents? I’m just so sick of the “Democrats = good, Republicans = bad” talk I keep hearing.

I understand that you are sick of of the whole good bad thing, the sad fact of the matter is that the republican party is a grossly homoginized party when compared to the democrats. Homoginization of thought is one of the greatest threats to the world today, in my own humble opinion. Think of the christian dominionis movement? the democratic party resembles the nation as a whole far more than the republicans. The republican party maintains controll through chicanery and supression of minority in the south by simple democratic aparthied(aka you can vote but it won’t matter, cause we’ve got more white people) in all areas they can. The republican party as a monolithic structure IS bad. That is not to say when the stone is shattered some nice bricks might be found. It is also not to say that the democrats are good, just better than bad. ughhhh.

Got something to say?
