SlyDial Would Be Cool if it Actually Worked

July 24, 2008

When I first read about SlyDial, I was really excited. Just between you and I — and now the rest of the world — I’ve never been a big fan of talking on the phone, with the exception of a few people.

So the prospect of being able to route myself directly to someone’s voicemail and leaving a message without having to actually talk to them sounded wonderful. Too bad that when I tested SlyDial by dialing my cell phone from my home phone, it not only rang my cell, but showed my number on the caller ID.

SUCH a tease!

the creators of slydial must have been fans of seinfeld.

Teresa, thanks for your review. Just to clarify, in most cases, the person you’re slydialing simply receives a new voicemail alert after you leave them a message. Depending on the carrier though, the phone of the person you’re slydialing may show a “missed call” from you (and in some cases may emit an abbreviated ring before leading to voice mail).

Gavin: But doesn’t that defeat the whole purpose? If the phone rings, they might pick it up, and then it’s even more awkward because you weren’t anticipating the possibility. Your product shouldn’t claim to do something it can’t deliver on 100%.

I tried it (I have t-mobile) from my work desk phone. My cell rang then a recorded message said: “The number you have dialed is not a working number”. Hmmm…

Got something to say?
