Equality Day in the City of Seattle
November 15, 2008
Andy and I attended a protest march from Capitol Hill to Westlake Park in Seattle today. The protest was brought on by the passage of California’s Proposition 8, banning gay marriage.
Here’s a slideshow from the event:
I’d estimate that between 8,000 and 11,000 people were in the procession at any one time, and that 15,000 people participated in total. By my count, we saw fewer than 10 counter protesters. Now, I know that Seattle is one of the most gay-friendly cities in the US, but even so, it’s pretty easy to see which way the wind is blowing.
